Digital Literacy and BYOD at Rooty Hill High School
Rooty Hill High School recognises that thriving in a digital world requires more than just access to technology—it demands confidence, responsibility, and creativity in its use. Our Digital Literacy and BYOD approach ensures that every student develops the skills and habits needed for safe, effective, and future-focused learning. This page outlines how we support students through a combination of structured digital platforms and clear expectations around device use.
In the 21st century, students leaving secondary school are expected to be proficient in using and designing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). At Rooty Hill High School, we emphasize digital literacy by fostering a safe and structured online learning environment that supports collaboration, creativity, and responsible technology use.
Our school operates its own Google Domain and Google Classroom, providing a secure digital space where students and teachers engage in learning, communication, and resource sharing. Every student is expected to have access to a personal and portable device (BYOD) to participate fully in online learning activities.
To support equity in learning, we work closely with students to ensure everyone can access the necessary technology. Students in Years 7–12 either receive a school-managed Chromebook on loan (recorded in our Oliver library system) or bring and register their own device. All students must bring a fully charged device to school daily to engage in learning and assessment activities.
Access and Requirements
Access to the school’s Google Domain requires parental permission.
Devices must meet minimum specifications, as outlined in the minimum specification guide.
Students are expected to use their devices safely, responsibly, and respectfully at all times.
Damage to school-provided devices will be assessed under the repair policy, with costs applied for negligence or misuse.
